本州以南に広く分布し、海外では台湾、中国、東南アジア、フィージ及びオーストラリアから知られる。おもに森林の堆葉層に生息し、食菌性。中国や東南アジアには似た種が数種いるが、前翅の重複縁毛を欠くことで区別されている。
